Hanauma Bay HI
Description The characteristic horseshoe shape of Hanauma Bay HI was formed when the sidewall of a volcano cone collapsed, letting the ocean flood in. The bay is absolutely brilliant for snorkelling - you can wonder at a huge variety of colourful marine life which populates a superb coral reef. Experienced snorkellers and scuba divers can venture further out into deeper water.
The picture-perfect beach is lovely for sunbathing and walking. The more adventurous can venture onto one of the many hiking trails extending along coastline and up the hill overlooking the bay. Hanauma Bay is extremely popular, and in an attempt to protect the coral the area was nominated a conservation park in 1967. Further protective measures were introduced in 1990.
