Plot It's Wyoming in the early 60s. A dour ranch manager, Joe, hires two young men, Ennis and Jack, to watch a large sheep flock high on Brokeback Mountain. When the men reach the mountain, they split up. Jack looks after camp at the bottom of the mountain, fetching new supplies as needed, and cooking supper. Ennis spends his days and nights high up with the herd, protecting them from wolves. Every day, Ennis rides down to the bottom camp for supper, then returns before nightfall to the high pastures. One evening, after a few too many drinks, Ennis doesn't make the trip back up, but instead stays the night in Jack's tent. A few furtive moments of sex starts a rocky relationship between the two men. |
