Plot
It's the days of silent movies. Don Lamont and Lina Lockwood are hot property as a on-screen romantic pair. Off-screen, down-to-earth Don does his best to avoid the unbearably self-important Lina. His attention is caught by Kathy Selden, a pretty actress with a beautiful singing voice.
When the first sound movies play to wildly enthusiastic audiences, the studio decide to turn the current Lamont/Lockwood movie into a talkie. The only problem is the hilariously excruciating sound of Lina's voice. Cosmo, the studio musical director, and Don's close friend, comes up with a solution. He suggests turning the movie into a musical, and dubbing Lina's voice with Kathy's. Lina is forced to accept the compromise, not knowing that Don and Kathy are dating. Then she finds out, and sparks fly.
