Description
Aspen is a town with a rich history. In the late 20th century it was the home to the world's most productive silver mines. But, when the seams ran out, the town quickly dwindled in size. Then in the mid 20th century the town reinvented itself as a ski centre. Nowadays Aspen is a very stylish, attractive town - the boom mining times left some beautiful character Victorian buildings. Linked by ski-bus, there are 4 separate skiing areas - Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, and Snowmass. Buttermilk is great for beginners, with lots of easy skiing. Snowmass has a good variety of terrain, with both easy slopes (at the bottom), and adrenaline-surging runs (at the top). Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands are best know for their extreme skiing. On Aspen mountain, try the famous dump runs, such as Bear Paw formed by slides of mining spoil. |
